Project Description

Client Brief-
The client who is a businessman, desired for a plush residence to serve as a second home in Bangalore for his family of four. He wanted the space to have a sleek, contemporary style with qualities of airiness and functionality. The spatial requirements were two master bedrooms, a bedroom for his daughter, a guest bedroom and a family/entertainment space apart from the ancillary spaces like living, dining, kitchen etc.

Concept-
For this 4BHK apartment, we conceptualized a predominantly neutral colour scheme for the base materials, ie the marble flooring/cladding, heavy furniture (beds, bean shaped sofa) and the curtains. A contemporary style was followed throughout. Wooden finishes are yet another base material that we wanted to include. The intention was to bring in hues of colour through loose furniture, artefacts, cushions etc, striving to create an elegant home that simultaneously bears the traits of warmth and cosiness. Spatially, we aimed to create kinetic spaces and worked towards maximum functionality and clever usage for every space.

Design process-

The patterned sandstone cladding in the foyer was intended to roughly emulate the geometric pattern in the flooring. Potted plants add vigour, giving off positive vibes and a sense of well-being to the person entering the home.

The vastness of the common spaces has been maintained wherever necessary and altered where necessary. For example, a foldable door demarcates the family space from the formal living. This foldable door helps implement different functions of the spaces as per the necessity. The outdoor deck ¬doubles as an entertainment space with a bar, optimizing the sunset view from the vantage point.

Coming to the base materials, a charcoal marble with white streaks was selected for all the common spaces, whereas a grey-white marble of a different pattern was selected for the bedrooms. In the formal living, muted olive single sofas contrast against a stark white L-seater sofa. The roundedness of the sofas adds an element of softness and break the rigidity of the space. Elegant circular drop lights in the living act as a reflection of the centre table trio chosen beneath. Carefully selected veneers pop up in various locations bringing in an element of warmth.

The bedrooms have been designed with understated elegance, using meticulously planned combinations of veneer panelling, uniquely veined marble cladding, concrete textured walls, pops of offbeat colours and chic drop lights. In the master bedroom, the backlit corten steel fins are the attention grabber, amongst the no-nonsense subtlety of the remaining colour scheme, while a hound’s-tooth patterned swivel chair provides an interesting contrast in pattern. The beautiful fluted white marble is a perfect backdrop behind the burnt orange bed in the daughter`s bedroom. The teal coloured swivel chair acts as an accent in the guest bedroom, while the strips of wood are an element of warmth against the cool tones of the white bed back panel and the swivel chair. The second master bedroom is entirely swathed in neutral tones, a geometric patterned bed back captivating the observer. The wooden flooring adds a sense of warmth to the space.
